COA Spearheads Annual Workshop

In an aim to arm student leaders with crucial financial know-how and practical auditing skills, the Commission on Audit spearheaded the annual Audit Seminar and Workshop at the James McKnight Auditorium earlier today anchored on the theme, “Leading with Purpose: Fostering Accountability in Governance”, yesterday, September 27.

The workshop commenced with awe-inspiring remarks uttered by the COA Chairperson, Ms. Bea Bianca Adlao which afterwards succeeded with the dynamic presentation of the Resource Speaker, Mr. Franz Kyle Algarme, CPA – former Chairperson of COA.

In his keynote speech, Algarme highlighted the increasing importance of financial accountability in today’s complex economic landscape, explaining that auditing encompasses both responsibility and accountability to ensure that an organization operates with integrity—something every future professional should understand.

Meanwhile, students participated in hands-on auditing exercises, analyzing financial transactions with guidance from facilitators during the interactive session.

Dianne Fritzie Lagsub, a junior auditor, expressed her newfound interest, saying, “I never thought I’d be so interested in auditing. But working through real scenarios, discovering the problems, and figuring out how to solve them—it was really exciting! It made me see auditing as more of a detective job than I expected.”

The event concluded with a Q&A session, an awards ceremony, and closing remarks by COA Chairperson-Elect Ms. Kate Mariel Camus. It served as part of COA’s initiative to promote financial literacy and integrity among students.
