A Legacy of Learning: The Marist Schools of Greece

The Marist schools in Greece, particularly the 𝗟𝘆𝗰é𝗲 𝗟é𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻 in 𝗔𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘀 (𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗮) and 𝗡𝗲𝗮 𝗦𝗺𝘆𝗿𝗻𝗶, stand as enduring symbols of educational excellence and Christian values — and served as the venue for the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗳𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘀 meeting, held November 10-15. Founded in 1838 and later managed by the Marist Brothers in 1907, these institutions have a rich history marked by resilience and dedication to their mission. Throughout the 20th century, the schools navigated significant historical events, including World War II, during which they provided essential support to the community. The establishment of the Nea Smyrni campus in 1962 further expanded their reach, and by 1986, they embraced co-education, adapting to modern educational standards.

Today, the Marist schools continue to uphold their commitment to fostering academic achievement and spiritual growth. They also serve as a place of dialogue and mutual sharing between Orthodox and Catholic communities, promoting understanding across faith traditions. Additionally, they actively engage in social outreach programs, such as language education for immigrants and support for underprivileged children, reflecting their deep-rooted values of compassion and service. These initiatives closely align with the United Nations 𝙎𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝘿𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙂𝙤𝙖𝙡𝙨, particularly 𝙎𝘿𝙂 4 (𝙌𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙀𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣), by promoting accessible, inclusive, and equitable learning for all. The Marist schools of Greece remain vital centers of learning and community engagement, shaping future generations with a blend of tradition and innovation.
